Photography & Listing FAQ

Everything you need to know about photos, video, and listing optimization for your short-term rental.

Home / FAQ / Photography & Listing FAQ
Is professional photography included with MyBnBDesign projects?

Yes. Professional photography is included as part of our design and furnishing projects, so your finished property is documented by a photographer who understands short-term rental listings. We schedule the shoot once styling is complete, so the images reflect the final result. You receive the edited gallery for use on every booking platform.

What kind of photos will I receive?

You receive a full gallery of edited, high-resolution interior and exterior images, plus detail shots of amenities guests care about, such as the coffee bar, workspace, and outdoor seating. Images are delivered in web-optimized sizes for Airbnb, VRBO, and Booking.com as well as full-size files for your own website and marketing. Wide, bright, true-to-life photography is the standard because it sets accurate guest expectations and drives clicks.

How many photos are typically taken per room?

We usually capture three to six angles per main room, including wide shots from opposite corners and a few tighter detail frames. Bathrooms and hallways typically need one to three images each. A typical listing ends up with 40 to 60 final photos, which gives guests enough visual detail without overwhelming them.

Do you style the property before the photoshoot?

Yes. Styling is the step that separates a good listing from a great one. We fluff bedding, arrange throw pillows, set tables, add fresh greenery, and remove clutter so every frame looks intentional. Because we furnished the space ourselves, the styling matches the design concept already in place.

What is virtual staging and do you offer it?

Virtual staging uses digital editing to add furniture and decor to photos of an empty or partially furnished room. It can be useful for marketing a property before furniture arrives or for showing a room's potential. We recommend using it carefully and labeling it, because Airbnb and other platforms expect photos to represent what guests will actually find on arrival.

Is virtual staging allowed on Airbnb?

Airbnb expects photos to accurately represent the space, so heavily altered images can lead to guest complaints and bad reviews. If you use virtual staging for pre-launch marketing, we suggest replacing those images with real photos as soon as the property is furnished. Honest imagery protects your rating and reduces refund requests.

Can you include drone photography?

Yes, drone photography is available for properties where aerial views add value, such as lakefront cabins, large lots, rural retreats, and homes near attractions. Aerial shots show guests the setting, parking, and proximity to features like water or trails. Drone flights follow local regulations, and we check airspace restrictions before any shoot.

When is drone photography worth the added cost?

Drone images help most when location is a major selling point, for example a ski chalet, beachfront home, or property with acreage, a pool, or a view. For a downtown condo or townhouse, interior photography usually delivers far more value. We recommend aerial shots when they answer a question guests would otherwise have about the surroundings.

Do you offer video walkthroughs?

Yes. A short video walkthrough lets guests experience the flow of the home, which builds confidence before booking. We typically produce a 60 to 90 second cinematic tour suited for your listing, website, and social media. Vertical cuts for Instagram Reels and TikTok can be arranged as well.

Where can I use a video walkthrough?

Airbnb and VRBO both support video on listings, and you can also feature it on your direct booking website, Google Business Profile, and social channels. Video is especially useful for direct bookings because it helps guests who have never heard of your brand trust the property. It also gives you reusable content for ads and email campaigns.

How does listing optimization work?

Listing optimization means refining every element guests see: photo order, title, description, amenity tags, house rules, and pricing context. We lead with the strongest hero image, arrange photos to tell a room-by-room story, and make sure the amenities you offer are all tagged for search filters. Small changes often lift click-through rate and conversion noticeably.

Do you write the Airbnb listing copy?

Yes. We write listing titles, summaries, space descriptions, and guest access sections that highlight what makes your property distinctive. Copy is written to be scannable, honest, and keyword aware, so it ranks well and sets accurate expectations. You can review and approve all text before it goes live.

What makes a strong Airbnb title?

A strong title is specific, benefit-focused, and fits within the character limit shown in search results. It typically names the standout feature, the property type, and a location cue, for example a hot tub, a walkable neighborhood, or a lake view. Avoid generic phrases and excessive symbols, because they blend in and can feel spammy.

What are the photo requirements for Airbnb?

Airbnb recommends landscape-oriented, high-resolution images, and requires a minimum number of photos for a listing to publish. We deliver images in landscape format at resolutions well above the minimum, with a cover photo chosen to perform well in search grids. Because platform requirements change, we verify current specs before delivering files.

Do VRBO and Booking.com have different photo requirements?

Each platform has its own recommended dimensions, minimum counts, and file size limits, and some display images in different crops. We export versions sized for each platform so nothing is awkwardly cropped. Maintaining a consistent gallery across channels also helps your brand look professional.

What does photo editing include?

Editing includes exposure and color correction, white balance, lens distortion fixes, straightening verticals, and removing minor distractions like cords or outlet clutter. We aim for a natural look that matches reality, avoiding oversaturated colors or distorted wide angles. The goal is images that look like the best version of the home on a sunny day.

Do you edit out flaws in the property?

We remove temporary distractions such as stray cables, trash bins, or a smudge on a mirror, but we do not hide permanent flaws or add features that are not there. Misleading images lead to negative reviews and disputes. If a feature is a drawback, it is better to fix it through design or describe it honestly.

How often should I update my listing photos?

We suggest refreshing photos every one to two years, or any time you make a meaningful change such as new furniture, a renovated bathroom, or added amenities like a hot tub. Outdated images that do not match the property cause guest disappointment. Updated photos can also help revive a listing whose bookings have plateaued.

Can you do seasonal photo updates?

Yes. Seasonal updates are popular for properties with strong seasonal demand, such as cabins, beach homes, and ski rentals. We can capture summer pool imagery, fall foliage, or a cozy snow-covered scene with festive touches. Showing the property in its best season can raise interest during shoulder periods.

Who owns the photos after the shoot?

You receive a license to use the final images for your rental marketing across booking platforms, your website, social media, and advertising. Our agreements spell out usage terms in writing so there is no confusion. If you plan to sell the property or share images with a property manager, the license covers that kind of use as well.

Can I give the photos to my property manager or co-host?

Yes, sharing the images with your property manager, co-host, or listing team is a normal use and is covered under your license. This lets everyone who markets the property use consistent, high-quality visuals. If you have a unique arrangement, such as sublicensing to a third-party advertiser, just let us know first.

Do you provide before-and-after photos?

Yes. We can document the space before work begins and again after styling, which produces compelling before-and-after comparisons. These are useful for your portfolio, social media, and showing investors or partners the value created. They also help you track the impact of design upgrades on bookings.

How can before-and-after photos help my business?

Transformation imagery is some of the most engaging content on social media, and it builds credibility with potential guests and fellow hosts. For owners, it creates a clear record of improvements, which is helpful for insurance, appraisals, and tax documentation. It also shows how design choices drive higher nightly rates.

How far in advance should I schedule the photoshoot?

Plan the shoot once furniture, linens, and decor are installed and the property has been deep cleaned. We typically schedule within a few days of install completion to keep your launch timeline tight. Booking early helps us secure the right time of day for natural light, often mid-morning to early afternoon.

Will my photos help me rank higher in Airbnb search?

Photos influence click-through and booking rates, which are signals the platform pays attention to. A compelling cover image and well-ordered gallery encourage more guests to open and book your listing. Combined with strong reviews, accurate amenities, and competitive pricing, great photography is one of the highest-return investments in a rental.
