Modular vs one-piece sofas for short-term rentals
A sofa must reach the living room, stay in position and fit the guest layout. Compare delivery geometry and the connection system alongside seat count and appearance.
Modular sofa or One-piece sofa?
| Consideration | Modular sofa | One-piece sofa |
|---|---|---|
| Access | Smaller sections may navigate tight turns, but each section still needs measurements. | The complete frame must pass the entire delivery route. |
| Layout | Can support different arrangements if connectors and room dimensions permit. | Provides a fixed arrangement with fewer separate sections to realign. |
| Repair | Ask if individual sections, connectors and covers can be purchased later. | Ask about cushion, leg and upholstery repair options for the whole unit. |
A worked planning scenario
A hypothetical apartment has a narrow entrance followed by a sharp hallway turn. A one-piece sofa fits the room but cannot make the turn. A modular alternative solves access only if its largest section fits and the connected arrangement preserves the balcony route. Smaller boxes do not excuse skipping the floor plan.
A practical decision process
- Measure the complete route including lift, stairs, doors and turns. Compare packed and unpacked dimensions and the delivery company’s requirements.
- Draw the assembled sofa and any alternate arrangement. Confirm how modules connect and whether guests can unintentionally separate them.
- Request the model-specific spare-parts policy. Record part numbers and avoid assuming a future collection will use compatible connectors.
- Install, connect and test the finished arrangement before photography. Show the cleaner the intended layout and how to recognize a loose connection.
Questions before you commit
- What is the largest indivisible section?
- Are connectors supplied and replaceable?
- Can the agreed arrangement remain stable on the actual floor?

Bring the decision into your project brief
Record your chosen option, the conditions it depends on and the person responsible for implementation. Bring the completed worksheet to a discussion about your property, and confirm the written service scope before committing to purchases.
